I absolutely love using meal delivery services. We have been getting Home Chef Delivery for almost two years, and it has saved me time at the grocery store, allowed us to try new meals, and made the “what do you want for dinner?” struggle almost disappear.
I get mailers and email offers for other meal delivery services all the time. I usually look at their websites and the meal options they have to offer and think I will look at it again later and forget about it. I was recently served an ad for Every Plate that said they had meals for $3.33 each. Super cheap, right? The offer was good enough for me to click on the ad. They actually had meals that looked good, and they were all pretty quick at 35 minutes or less.
I did have concerns about the quality of the meat and produce, but figured it was worth a shot. Here are the things I have noticed after using them for two weeks.
- Every Plate has fewer options per week then Home Chef. Home Chef gives you 13-15 options each week, plus lunch options, and fruit and smoothie add-ons. Every Plate gives you 6 dinner options to choose from each week.
- Every Plate sends the produce all in one box. I know this seems like it doesn’t matter, and it really doesn’t. When you open an Every Plate box you get one box with all the produce items for all the meals, then a separate layer with the meat. Home Chef sends a bag for each meal with all the produce items separated. They are both convenient options, but I do like just grabbing the bag for the meal I am cooking with the meat for that meal and having it all separated for me.
- This is something Aaron noticed because he tracks his Macros every day, but Every Plate doesn’t include nutrition information on the instruction cards. They do include all the nutrition information on their website, you just have to take the extra step to find it there.
- The Every Plate portions are smaller. I have been full after the five meals we have had, but Aaron hasn’t. That is a common thing you hear about meal kits in general, but we have never noticed it with Home Chef. In fact, there are a few meals we have had leftovers for one person, and the portions of meat are large enough to keep Aaron full.
- Every Plate is a cheaper option. After the promo period ends with Every Plate I will be charged $29.94 plus $8.99 shipping for three meals from Every Plate, for a total of $38.93 each week for six total meals (three meals for two people). For the same amount of meals through Home Chef my weekly total is $59.70. They both also offer premium options from time to time with better cuts of steak.
Overall I love the ease of having three meals per week picked and ready to go when I get home from work. Going forward I am going to check both services to see which one has better meal options each week and switch back and forth. It is easy enough to add rice or an extra side to the Every Plate meals to make them larger and still save money.
I do have promo codes for each service if you would like to try either one, or both. Click on the links below to try them out.
