After years and years of washing my hair every single day I am finally able to go multiple days between washes. Most weeks I wash my hair three times, but that is mostly because I wash it on the nights I work out. If I didn’t workout I could go four or five days between washes. Here are a few tips to keep your hair looking good and use less heat.
Tip #1: Sleep with your hair in a ponytail on the very top of your head. This helps with volume at your root and if you curl your hair it will keep your curls intact while you sleep. I use the hair ties that look like a phone cord. You can get them on Amazon. These help prevent damage and bumps in your hair.
Gather all your hair on the top of your head if you can. If you hair isn’t long enough to get it all on top of your head just get as much as you can. Make sure your hair isn’t pulled too tight and the hair tie isn’t wrapped too tight.
Tip #2: Sleep on a silk pillowcase. I have been using a silk pillowcase for over 10 years now and I will never go back. When you use a cotton or flannel pillowcase your hair and skin pull on the fabric when you turn in the night. You also can get lines on your face if you sleep on your side. Your hair and skin glide across the silk so it doesn’t damage your hair or skin while you sleep. Plus, they stay cooler through the night. This is the one I have now and I love it.
Tip #3: Use a shower cap when you shower. I have only done this for a couple of months now. I used to leave my hair in the ponytail in the shower and just not get my head wet. I can’t remember who’s Instagram stories I was watching, but they were talking about the humidity in the bathroom when you shower. It clicked all the sudden that a shower cap would help keep my hair out of that humidity, so I bought one and I wear it every time I don’t wash my hair. I just throw it over the ponytail when I wake up.
Bonus tip #4: If you use dry shampoo, apply it at night. A lot of people complain about the white residue dry shampoo can leave. If you apply it at night it will be absorbed by morning. I only really need dry shampoo on day three or four, but I like to use it on day two for added volume. I sometimes use it on clean hair too to add some texture to my hair. I have been using the Living Proof dry shampoo and I love the smell. That’s really what it is about, right? Your hair products need to smell good too.
Do you have any tips to keep your hair fresh for a couple extra days? I am working on refreshing it after I work out to add extra days with no heat, but I just can’t do it yet.
