First of all, I know there are a lot of topics that are not taught in school that are more “important” than skincare, but let’s think about this for a minute.
What did you do in gym class in high school? If your school was like mine, you played baseball, dodgeball, ran track, and learned very basic sex ed. Couldn’t they work in a lesson or two on skincare?
I’m not suggesting the beauty side of skincare be taught, I’m talking the basic ways to clear up, and give life to your skin. I know when I was in high school my skin looked like every other teenager from the late 90s and early 2000s. It was dull, uneven, and desperately seeking a cleanser and moisturizer. My Mom put a moisturizer on every night after washing her makeup off, and I remember seeing her do it, it just never occurred to me to do it myself.
I started playing with makeup a little bit in high school but wasn’t taking it off at night. I would wash it off with regular body wash in the shower each morning. It wasn’t until I was in my late 20s that I started to care about what I put on my face and when I removed it. Let’s take a look at the difference skincare has made in my life.
This photo was taken on April 20, 2016. I am 29 years old and did not really care about my skin at this point. I was lucky enough to have fairly clear skin most of the time, I would get breakouts around “that time” of the month. However, you can tell my skin is dry, dull, and textured. I was wearing whatever makeup I bought that month and wiping it off with an off-brand makeup wipe when I remembered.
Fast forward 16 months to August 22, 2017. I am now 30 years old and out of nowhere realized I needed to care about my skin and body. I had just signed up to sell LipSense after loving it and wearing it daily for five months. I was still wearing a mixed-bag of makeup and taking it off with a makeup wipe, but I was taking my makeup off every night. Baby steps, right? My skin was still dull, dry, and textured.
This photo was taken on March 12, 2018. I had just turned 31. I had been selling SeneGence products for six months and started to purchase their makeup and skincare products. I started small with a cleanser and an evening moisturizer. I was using Color Correcting Tinted Moisturizer as my foundation so I counted that like a daytime moisturizer. My skin appears a little brighter and less textured.
Let’s jump ahead to January 22, 2019. Look at my skin, guys. I am wearing makeup in this photo, but I was in all the others too. I had been using basic (but quality) skincare products consistently, taking my makeup off at night and paying attention to everything I put on my skin. I dabbled around with some of the “specialty” SeneGence skincare products like Climate Control, SeneSerum C, and Hydrating Facial Mist. The products I use consistently are cleanser, day and night time moisturizer.
This photo was taken this past Saturday, July 13, 2019. I am makeup-free and 32 years old. Do we need a side-by-side? You can see the difference, right? My skin is not perfect. I have blemishes, some dark circles under my eyes, and some smile lines. It is so much better than it was three years ago though. Someone commented on one of my Instagram photos a few weeks ago and said: “I feel like you are aging backward and it isn’t fair”. My response was “All it takes is stress management (we will get into this another day) and great skincare”.
This is not a ploy to sell SeneGence products to you. However, I feel they are the best and if you have any questions about them I would be happy to answer all of them. This is a PSA to everyone that isn’t taking their makeup off at night or is using bar soap to wash their face. Please stop.
I can only imagine how much more confident I would have been as a teenager or as a 20-year-old woman if I had known what I know now. So I will end this where I began, why isn’t there a basic skincare class taught in school?
