A Skinnier Vanilla Late: How to Order

For as long as I can remember I have treated myself for doing adult things. Go grocery shopping in the rain. Grab a package of cookies for a treat. Work over the weekend. Eat Mexican food for a treat. Handle all the adult things this week. Celebrate with a glass of wine. You get the point.

Since I have moved to San Francisco I have treated myself at the end of every work week with a “fancy” coffee. We have a Starbucks in the lobby of our office, I pass it every day to get to my office. It can go downhill quickly with all the specialty drinks and limited-edition beverages they have to offer, so I limit my treat drinks to Fridays only.

My go-to favorite drink of all time is a Chai Tea Latte. I love them. I also count down the days until PSL’s (Pumpkin Spice Lattes) are released each year. I will have one, or 20 before they are gone for another year. For the most part, though I have changed the way I eat and one of the changes I have made is drinking fewer calories. Do you know how many calories are in a grande Chai Tea Latte? 240. That is too many calories to drink in under five minutes no matter how amazing they taste. I still treat myself to my favorite-of-all-time drink from time to time, just not every Friday.

I set out on a quest to find a “treat drink” that was 100 calories or under, and was yummy enough to qualify as a treat. Something different than my regular blonde roast that I drink black Monday through Thursday. After trying many different “recipes” I HAVE FOUND MY DRINK!

Here is how you order it:

Grande Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte with 1 scoop of vanilla bean powder, Almond milk, and 2 shots of espresso.

The regular Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte is delicious too, and only 170 calories (which is pretty good for a Starbuck’s drink). If you order it as it comes it will have 2 scoops of vanilla bean powder, 2 shots of espresso, and coconut steamed milk.

By eliminating one scoop of vanilla bean powder, and substituting the milk you bring this delicious treat down to 90 calories. I can always fit 90 calories into my diet for a “you worked all week treat”.

Do you treat yourself for doing things you had to do anyway? What do you use for a treat?
