At the beginning of each new year, we see everyone we know talking about goals and resolutions. To be honest, I don’t always make them. I feel like you don’t need a new year to set goals for yourself. That being said, I decided since this is not only a new year but a new decade I should set a few goals for myself to work toward.
When I sat down to think about what things I really wanted to accomplish before 2021 I decided to break it up into three categories: personal, professional, and side-gig goals.
Personal Goals
I began my journey to a healthier life in 2019, and I really want to step that up a notch in 2020. I will continue to eat well at least 80% of the time (I know myself too well to strive for perfection). I will continue to work out at least three days a week. This year I want to work on adding some activity on the other four days a week. That could mean a walk at lunch, a walk after dinner, stretching while watching TV, anything to move my body each day.
Another personal goal of mine is to read more this year. I love to read, but sometimes life gets in the way. I want to make an effort to read at least one book a month this year.
The last personal goal on my list also kind of falls in the professional category. I want to find a charity that I am passionate about in San Francisco. I had a couple of charity organizations I worked with in Flint, and I miss serving on boards and volunteering my time. We get paid volunteer time with my company, and I want to use every hour this year.
Professional
My professional goal for 2020 is to network. It is very easy for me to only speak to coworkers and clients at meetings, and not make an effort to meet new people. I am actually kind of shy, and networking events give me anxiety. I want to step out of my comfort zone and attend some events this year to meet colleagues and maybe some new friends.
Side-Gig Goals
Under the side-gig goals category, I have this blog, social media, and selling Senegence products.
For this blog in 2020, I want to do more tutorials. I get asked all the time how I curl my hair, or how I bake a dessert. I want this space to be a resource for all the things people ask me about.
For social media, my goal is to share more everyday moments. I have an Instagram account that I primarily use for makeup and skincare. I want to show more of my everyday life. I feel like my life is boring, and maybe you will too, but by showing more of my life I hope to build a true community of friends.
For SeneGence my goal is to share these products with even more people. I do make money from sharing makeup and skincare, and it covers the cost of my makeup each month, but more than that I want people to know these products exist. I think everyone should know there is an eyeliner that won’t give you raccoon eyes by 3 pm, and that there is a mascara that grows your lashes, and skincare that will make you want to stop wearing foundation because your skin looks that good. I want to tell the world.
2019 was a life-changing year, and I am ready for 2020 to be even better. What goals do you have for this year?
