Exploring San Francisco: The Golden Gate Bridge

Aaron and I went to see the Golden Gate Bridge a couple weekends ago and it wasn’t what I expected.

Everyone we work with kept asking us if we had been to the Golden Gate yet. We kept saying “no, we will get there but Michigan has their own bridge. I can’t imagine it’s that different.” The truth is, the bridge isn’t really different. The Mackinaw Bridge is beautiful and long and can be scary to drive across. We have seen it and driven across it multiple times. The Golden Gate bridge is iconic to San Francisco. It is a one-mile long suspension bridge that connects the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. It was deemed one of the wonders of the modern world.

The bridge is an amazing structure. I have to admit though the scenery in Marin County took my breath away. We drove across the bridge to take some photos of it with the city in the background. We parked the car and started walking back down towards the bridge. There are a few look-out points just North of the bridge where you can park your car and take photos. We just happened to be there on a beautiful sunny day, and it was breathtaking.

The hills were green, the water was clear, and the sun was shining. The photos don’t do it justice. We came from a very flat state. Michigan doesn’t have these rolling hills. I love seeing the mountains as we drive out of town, but there was something magical about this view.

We wandered up and down the trail for a couple hours taking photos of the bridge and the scenery. I strongly suggest if you visit the Bay Area to drive across the bridge and stop to take in the view. I now understand why it is a wonder of the world.
