I have been talking about seeing the redwoods since before we moved to San Francisco. I have no idea why, but I just imagined them to be beautiful. We had a Saturday with no plans, so I quickly made a reservation at Muir Woods National Monument and told Aaron to get ready!
You have to make a reservation in advance if you want to park onsite at the park. There are a few other places to park and take a shuttle, but they had times available, so we walked to the car and headed across the Golden Gate. We stopped in Sausalito to kill some time and eat an ice cream sundae. Hiking fuel, right? The drive down to Muir Woods was beautiful. It was filled with mountains and winding roads. We stopped on the way there and on the way back to take photos.
You could spend as much time as you wanted to inside Muir Woods. We only had a few hours until the park closed, and now I wish we would have had more time. The main trail is a wooden path that is easy to stroll along and take some photos. There are also a number of harder hikes inside the park. We did one of the shorter hikes since we didn’t have much time.
The Redwood Creek trail was an easy walk through the woods. It took us about an hour, but we stopped frequently so Aaron could take some photos.
He got some really cool shots while we were there. If you get the chance to visit the redwoods you should take a couple hours and do it. The park is beautiful and its a nice walk in the fresh air.
Side note, did you have a senior photo taken leaning on a tree? We all did, right? Aaron says he didn’t, so I made him take one while we were there.
Everyone had this exact picture taken, I thought it was part of the senior photo package. My arms were crossed in my photo, but I was definitely leaning on a tree. Why were we all leaning on trees? I will have to dig mine out and do a comparison.
Anyway, on the way out of the park we found a four hour hike that takes you along the coast. We didn’t have time during that visit, but the next free weekend with nice weather we plan on going back and checking it out.
Until next time, Muir Woods.
