The Great Razor Debate: Flamingo vs. Billie

If you have been on social media at all this year, you have likely seen an ad or either the Flamingo razor, the Bille razor, or both. I tried them both so I could compare them for you.

I purchased the Flamingo razor first because everyone was talking about it. The biggest plus for this razor is that it is available online or at Target. I ordered the shave set for $16. In the set, I got the handle color of my choice, two blades, a sample of shave cream, and a lotion.

I will start with the handle itself. It has some weight to it which is nice, and it really is a pretty razor if you care about that. The blades felt sharp and gave me a nice first shave. I also used the shaving cream and the lotion after my first shave. I absolutely love the lotion. It feels great and smells amazing. I have purchased more from Target after mine ran out. I can’t say there was anything special about the shaving cream, I liked it but stuck to my normal brand once it was empty.

I have two flamingo complaints. The first is that the blades seemed to dull very quickly. I do shave every day, but I even the disposable razors I used to buy would last a full week. By the fourth day, the Flamingo blades seemed dull to me. I asked the company how long they are supposed to last, and they said one to two weeks depending on how often you shave. I had to replace my blade more than once per seven day period. The second complaint is that while shaving my legs the blade would fall off the handle sometimes. It may have been the way I was holding the handle, but I didn’t like that it fell off randomly.

On to the Billie Razor. This razor you buy online only. It is a subscription service that sends you the starter kit, then sends you blades however often you need them. They determine how often you need blades based on a short quiz you take when you first order.

I ordered the starter kit for $9. It came with the handle color of my choice, and three blades. You could add on shaving cream and lotion if you want to. Then each month they send me four blades and charge my card $9. I can skip or push back my delivery date each month if I find I need them more or less often.

This razor is more lightweight than the Flamingo but still feels sturdy and nice in your hand. It comes with a triangle magnet that sticks to your shower wall for easy hanging.

My first shave with the Bille was the best shave I have ever had. Can a razor be lifechanging? If it can, then this one is. I was skeptical after the first shave because how quickly the Flamingo blades would dull, but I don’t have that problem with the Billie. I change the blade each Sunday and continue to get smooth shaves.

Bille also has a pink tax rebate. On their website, they say they are sorry we have been overpaying for razors all this time. You can sign up for the pink tax rebate here and share with your friends to earn $20 toward products. No purchase required to sign up.

The Bille razor is the clear winner in my book. Have you tried either one? What one did you prefer?
