The Biggest Change I Have Made in my Diet

I have made a very conscious effort to focus on my health this year. When we moved in January our apartment was at the top of a hill, and it killed me every day. I knew I needed to start exercising, but I also knew that I couldn’t outrun a bad diet.

Our eating habits changed naturally this year since we have so many new food options, none of which are fast food. I have always liked to cook, but when you move to the most expensive city in the US, you cook as often as possible to cut food costs.

I joined a program called Noom to track my meals, exercise, and learn about why I was eating the way I had been for years. I will do into more detail about Noom in a later post, but I’m happy to answer any questions you have until then via email.

The biggest change I had to make was what I was drinking. I would drink so many calories in a day, and not even realize it. From coffee creamer in the morning to coke with lunch, then a glass of milk with dinner. Do you know how many calories that is per day? Over 400 calories. That is an entire meal worth of calories.

Cutting coffee creamer was easy, I just went cold turkey. Cutting milk with dinner was a little harder because I want something with flavor to drink with meals. I drink water at my desk all day and in the evening, I just wanted something flavored to drink with each meal.

Enter Bubly water.

I have tried every flavored water product on the market. I hate them all. They don’t have any flavor, and in general, I don’t like carbonated water. I finally tried Mango Bubly water out of desperation, and I actually liked it! From Mango I moved on to Lime, I liked that one too. You can buy 12 packs at most grocery stores, but I went on the hunt for a variety pack so I could try all the flavors.

Amazon for the win. You can buy an 18 pack for around $11 and get it delivered to your door in two days. I set up a subscribe and save order through Amazon so it is delivered every three weeks.

We now drink this with lunch and dinner and I have cut out so many calories each day. I do still have an occasional coke with a meal out, or because I’m craving one, but it is so rare. I couldn’t tell you the last time I drank a glass of milk either, I don’t even think about it anymore.

I do still drink coffee creamer on occasion. The seasonal flavors get me every year. Baby steps, right?
