My Skincare Routine: December 2019

My skincare routine has changed a little over the last year. If anything, it has gotten more simple. I have found that if I consistently put quality products on my skin I don’t need to use as many “treatment” products.

Winter is the dry season for most of the United States, but here in San Francisco, it is actually more humid than it is in the summer. Our rainy season starts in late fall and brings some much-needed humidity to our climate, so I don’t need the extra hydration for my skin that I do in the summer.

Let’s start with makeup removal. It is SO important to remove your makeup before you go to sleep each night. It is one of the first things I do when I get home each night because it feels like a spa treatment and I love it.

Shea Butter Body Cream

I use Shea Butter Body Cream to remove my makeup each day. You can read about how I do it, and why I will never do anything else here.

Normal to Oily Evening Moisturizer

Right before bed each night I use Normal to Oily Evening Moisturizer all over my face, neck, and chest. That is it. This is the only product I use at night, except for Lip Volumizer and Lip Balm. I do have a few “treatment” products I will use on occasion, but my nightly routine is very quick and simple.

My morning routine consists of different products but is also quick and simple.

Normal to Oily 3 in 1 Cleanser

While I’m in the shower each morning, I use the 3 in 1 cleanser from the SeneGence normal to oily line. I don’t use it at night unless I feel like my skin really needs to be cleaned after makeup removal. This cleanser has made a huge difference in my skin, it feels clean and hydrated after each use.

EyeLuminator

The next product I use each morning is EyeLuminator. This is a daytime eye cream mixed with Pearlizer, which is a highlighting product. It brightens my under eye area better than any other product. I put this on right after my shower to let it work its magic before I do my makeup. On no makeup days, this is all I wear under my eyes to give them a little life.

Color Correcting Tinted Moisturizer – Light

The last step in my skincare routine is part skincare and part makeup. I wear Color Correcting Tinted Moisturizer in the Light shade as my daytime moisturizer and foundation. It is light to medium coverage and evens out your skin tone. Since it has sun protection and a moisturizer built-in, I don’t need a day time moisturizer most of the time. I love products that work in multiple ways to simplify my routine.

Let’s talk treatment products.

Polishing Exfoliator | Detoxifying and Moisturizing Mask

I have been a lover of masks and treatments for a long time. I have tried the sheet masks, peel masks, undereye treatments, and more. I love to try new products, but these two are my go-to treatments.

I use the detox mask at least once per week, usually on Sundays. I put it on about 20 minutes before my shower and let it work its magic. It pulls all the gunk out of my skin and leaves it feeling baby soft.

The Polishing Exfoliator is gentle enough to use multiple times per week. I use it once or twice in the shower to really remove the dead skin and let my skin glow. It speeds up cell turnover so it helps to reveal your glowing, hydrated skin.

There are other treatment products I can recommend based on your skin type and skin issues, but the most important thing is understanding your skin type. You can take the skin type quiz here to help determine what products will work best for your skin.

Is my skin perfect with these products? No. I still get hormonal pimples each month and the occasional dry spot or blemish, but it has improved so much since I have been consistent with my skincare regimen.
