Monthly Recap: May 2020

How in the world is it June already? How have we spent the last three months inside and away from family, friends, and coworkers?

We tried to get as back to “normal” as possible in May with hikes, and socially distanced park dates with friends.

Aaron and I have been running a few mornings a week, and I might actually be starting to enjoy it. The running itself hasn’t gotten a lot easier, but I enjoy starting some days off moving my body and getting some fresh air.

I spent a lot of my free time in May organizing the places in our apartment that I don’t get to on a weekly basis. I finally went through my recipe cards from Home Chef and removed all the duplicates. I also put some of our favorites in a binder that is easily accessible so I can make them without the kits. Bishop thought he was helping me, but he was just being cute and in the way.

One weekend while we were in the grocery store Aaron grabbed a bag of mini marshmallows and said “you should put these in cookies”. I love marshmallows, so I was excited to try it. Let’s just say these weren’t my best looking cookies. The marshmallows melted and made the cookies very sticky. They tasted good, but weren’t easy to eat. I have ideas to perfect this recipe, and I will try again soon.

On Mother’s Day, the weather was beautiful in the Bay Area, so we decided to find an open park and take a quick hike. I can’t even express how much I missed doing this. I love taking in the scenery and getting some sun while also getting some exercise. You can read about the hike here.

We took advantage of the warmer weather and took plenty of walks around the city in May. I always took photos of the empty, boarded up city in hopes that soon it is a memory and no longer our reality.

I had been searching for a light pink (almost white) nail polish for a while, and I finally found one I like. This shade is Pre-Show Jitters, and it is the perfect spring shade.

Jade and Bishop turned six on May 25th, so we celebrated with lots of snuggles and lots of photos. You can read more about their story here.

On the weekends we have been walking around different parts of the city. It was warmer than usual a few weekends ago, so we walked along the water and near Oracle Park. Remember when we used to go to baseball games in the summer? I miss those days.

We also miss our friends. Now that some parks have opened up we met a friend for a park date. We sat on separate blankets and just talked about everything from the last two or three months while snacking and soaking up some sun. Aaron also learned the importance of sunscreen this weekend. His legs were so red by the time we got home.

Heat waves are fun here. We had a few days of really hot weather in the city. We had a couple of heat waves last year, but our office was air conditioned so we weren’t in the heat all day. We are still working from home, so we brought the fan in the living room, shut all the shades, put on shorts, and tried to stay cool. The cats were not happy about it, but we all made it through.

I am planning some hikes to take, some parks to visit, and some friends to (safely) see in June, and I couldn’t be more excited!
