Exploring San Francisco: Skyline Ridge Preserve

Most of our parks and hiking trails have re-opened in the Bay Area, and we immediately took advantage of a park outside of the city to get some fresh air and exercise.

When we first moved to San Francisco in 2019, we made it a goal to explore new areas at least a couple of times per month. I had a master list of places people had told us to visit, places I found on blogs, and places that just seemed cool. We haven’t done this as much this year, partially because of COVID-19, and partially because winter is our rainy season.

I am restarting my list of places to visit, and planning weekend activities again, though they may be limited right now.

Aaron actually found this hiking trail for us, we knew we wanted to get outside last weekend, we just didn’t know where we wanted to go. The weather is so different around the Bay Area, we found an area that was in the 70s and hit the road.

We drove about 45 minutes south to the town of La Honda to visit Skyline Ridge Trail.

There were multiple trails to choose from inside the hiking area, so we picked one at random and headed out. We saw a few other people, but it wasn’t too crowded and everyone was respectful of personal space.

The views along this trail were breathtaking.

We took some time along the walk to stop and take photos and just enjoy the scenery.

The second half of the 2.5 miles was all uphill. Luckily, it was also in a shaded area.

I waited until after the uphill section to take our hiking selfie, which was not my best decision. We were sweaty and out of breath when we reached the top of this hill.

I have already added this trail to my list of places to return. It was a good workout and a beautiful view.
