I used to decorate the whole house for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving every year. When we moved from Michigan to California I didn’t bring most of my decor because I knew I wouldn’t have room to store it. Our apartment is small, and storage spaces are limited, so I only brought a couple of small things with me.
Last year we had a very hard time getting into the Christmas spirit. I think it was a combination of the warm weather and the lack of decorations in our home. So, I decided early on this year that I was going to buy some decorations, and put them up early. 2020 needs some joy, and Christmas lights bring me joy.
The first thing I purchased and put up was this 4 foot flocked tree from Walmart. It was under $30 and will fit in the back of a closet when I take it down. I didn’t put bulbs on it because the cats will rip them off, but I love turning the lights on every night and getting cozy on the couch.
The pillow I grabbed from Target last year. They don’t have the same one this year, but there are a ton of cute options.
This flocked garland also came from Walmart. I also keep forgetting to zip tie all those cords to the base of the TV so they are a little more hidden. I’m adding that to my to-do list for the weekend. I cut this garland in half with wire cutters and used bread ties to attach it to the sides of the TV stand. I will tell you, the flocking is a mess. Our cats bat at the garland and the white stuff gets everywhere. I use a giant lint roller from Amazon to clean it up every day or two.
The last thing in my Walmart order was this lit wreath. I had intentions of hanging on the inside of our door, but then realized it wasn’t battery operated. This shoe stand is right next to a plug and in our entryway, so this is where it lives. I had it hanging on a command strip, but that only lasted a day or two.
I bought these bottle brush trees on an impulse buy from Target, not really knowing what to do with them. I ended up putting them on the top of the bookshelf and I actually like the small touch of Christmas there.
This little tree was a Target purchase last year from the dollar spot. I added it to the kitchen along with some battery powered candles that guide my way to the coffee each morning.
Our holiday décor is simple, but that is all we need. Our space isn’t very big so we just need a few Christmas touches to help get us in the holiday spirit.
