Same City, New View

One fantastic thing to come out of the pandemic (at least for us) is that rent prices dropped significantly in San Francisco. Since Aaron and I both work from home we really needed a dedicated workspace and the drop in rent prices allowed us to move to a larger apartment without paying more.

We started looking at two-bedroom options in February of 2021, knowing our lease wasn’t up until April. We looked at all the highrise buildings in San Francisco, some smaller communities, and some buildings we passed on when we first moved here.

We finally found a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in a great area that we loved! We walked in to see it around 4 one afternoon and saw this view.

We loved all the extra space and the giant windows, so we signed the paperwork the next day and decided to leave our other apartment early. You can see the tour of our other apartment here, and our work from home setup here. It was time for more space.

We moved into our new apartment at the end of March 2021 and have been so happy here! We turned the second bedroom into a shared office, but when we are both in meetings or on calls one of us can work from the kitchen island. We needed a second place to work so we weren’t talking over each other, but also weren’t sitting on our bed.

I love having this much counter space for cooking and baking! We also have at least twice the number of cupboards now.

I’m standing in our living room to take this photo, so the space is open and airy like I had hoped for.

I love having a window over the sink for natural sunlight and something to look at while I’m washing dishes, or let’s be real, loading the dishwasher.

The living room is open and so much larger than our last apartment. We love all the windows, but it does get very hot in the afternoon when all the blinds are open. The sun sets in the corner behind the pole. We thought we would hate the carpet, but we actually think it’s kind of cozy after living with it for a few months.

Aside from having more space, the best part about the move is the area. We are only one mile from where we used to live, but it’s a totally different experience. We live across the street from the grocery store, there is a local market a couple blocks down the road, we are also right next to the train station.

Oracle Park, where the Giants play is at the end of the block. That makes for some great people-watching before and after games.

Behind Oracle is a trail along the water with a running and a bike lane. I run a few mornings a week down this trail to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

We also have a food truck park a few blocks down the street. It’s a great place to walk to for lunch or dinner because there are so many different options. They also have a putt putt course if you are looking for something fun to do.

Overall we have been very happy in our new home enjoying all our extra space with prices are cheaper (though still not cheap).
