Monthly Recap: August 2020

I’m nine days late, but August kicked off a series of very weird weather days in the Bay Area. Overall, August was a “normal” month for us, whatever that means these days.

Aaron and I had an at-home date night one Saturday, and I found this Cajun Chicken recipe online. We both loved it and I plan to make it again this week.

I also made homemade Twix bars. I have to be honest with you, these took a long time. I have some tricks I will use next time to speed up the process and I will do a whole post about how I make them. They were delicious. Aaron and I ate them all in under a week. That is 32 twix bars in under one week. I haven’t made them again, but I will.

Jade and Bishop still don’t really understand work hours. They want attention the second we jump on a video call. Our coworkers are used to seeing them at this point, they are just part of most meetings.

We had a weekend heatwave in early August that lasted a few days. Every time we have a heatwave I put a portable air conditioner in my Amazon cart. Then I decide it won’t be that bad and never check out. Then it is that bad, and I regret it. Maybe one day I will actually check out and we can stay cool.

We went over to a friends house to eat takeout and get out of our own apartment for an afternoon. I forget how important it is to get out of my own space, even if it is just to sit in someone elses.

On August 15th we had a thunderstorm that started over 600 fires in California. Lightening is a rare occurrence in the Bay Area, but when it does happen it is amazing. I actually miss the summer thunderstorms, so it was fun to watch. That is until the fires started. This photo is from the morning of August 19th. The smoke turned the sky orange and everything smelled like a campfire. Spoiler alert, wait for my September update, it got so much worse.

Starbucks released Pumpkin Spiced Lattes on August 25th and Aaron grabbed me one on our way to the office. It was just as good as I remember.

I wrapped up the month of August by adding a few fall touches to our apartment. The colors, smells, and tastes of fall make me so happy. I want to burn all the candles and bake all the things.
